We often get asked, will tallow suit my skin? Yes, tallow is suited to some skin types more than others but whether you are suffering from dry and inflamed skin, excess oil or acne, tallow is a powerful ingredient to heal and nourish your skin, you just have to learn the best way to use it and when.

Tallow is a skincare ingredient that has been used for centuries, dating back to ancient civilizations such as the Egyptians and Greeks. Tallow is derived from beef fat and has been shown to be a highly nourishing and moisturising ingredient for the skin.

For dry skin types

Firstly, tallow skincare is best suited for those with dry skin. Dry skin is characterised by a lack of moisture, which can lead to flakiness, itchiness, and a tight feeling. Tallow is a highly moisturising ingredient that can help to hydrate and nourish dry skin. Tallow contains a high concentration of natural fatty acids, such as palmitic acid, stearic acid, and oleic acid, which are all beneficial for dry skin. These fatty acids help to lock in moisture and prevent water loss, which can help to alleviate dryness and improve skin texture. For example in winter even those of us with oily skin types will benefit from incorporating tallow skincare as weather conditions can dry and flake our skin.

For mature skin types

Tallow skincare is also beneficial for those with mature skin. As we age, our skin loses elasticity and firmness, which can lead to wrinkles and sagging. Tallow contains natural collagen and elastin, which are proteins that are important for maintaining skin elasticity and firmness. The collagen and elastin in tallow can help to improve skin texture, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and promote a more youthful appearance.

For sensitive and inflammatory skin conditions

Tallow skincare may also be beneficial for those with sensitive skin. Sensitive skin is easily irritated and may be prone to redness, inflammation, and rashes. Tallow is a gentle ingredient that is less likely to cause irritation than other skincare ingredients. Tallow is similar in composition to the natural oils in our skin, which makes it more compatible with sensitive skin. Tallow is also free from synthetic fragrances, preservatives, and other harsh chemicals that can irritate sensitive skin.

For oily and acne prone skin

First and foremost, our range of tallow skincare uses only natural ingredient and is free from harsh chemicals and synthetic fragrances that can irritate the skin. This makes it a great option for individuals with all types of sensitive skin, as it is less likely to cause adverse reactions or exacerbate inflammation.  Tallow is also highly compatible with the natural oils in our skin, which can help to regulate oil production and prevent excessive sebum buildup.

Tallow contains a high concentration of natural fatty acids, such as palmitic acid, stearic acid, and oleic acid, that can help to improve the overall health of the skin. These fatty acids have anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties that can help to soothe and heal acne-prone skin. Palmitic acid, in particular, has been shown to have antimicrobial properties that can help to prevent the growth of acne-causing bacteria on the skin.

Tallow skincare is also highly moisturizing, which may seem counterintuitive for individuals with oily or acne-prone skin. However, keeping the skin hydrated and moisturized is essential for maintaining a healthy skin barrier and preventing excessive oil production. When the skin is dehydrated, it can overcompensate by producing more oil, which can lead to clogged pores and acne breakouts. Tallow helps to lock in moisture and prevent water loss, which can help to maintain a healthy skin barrier and prevent excessive oil production.

It is important to note that the amount and time of day can also impact the application of tallow skincare, and for oiler skin types, less is more and should be applied after thorough cleansing, toning and preferable once a day.

Additionally, it is important to use tallow skincare products in moderation, as they can be heavy and may exacerbate oiliness if used excessively. Start with a small amount of product and gradually increase use as needed. It is also important to cleanse the skin thoroughly before using tallow skincare products, as this will help to remove excess oil and prevent clogged pores.

It is important to note that not all tallow skincare products are created equal. The quality of the tallow used in skincare products can vary greatly depending on the source and processing method. It is important to choose tallow skincare products that are sourced from grass-fed, pasture-raised animals, as these animals have a higher concentration of beneficial nutrients in their fat. Additionally, tallow that is processed using traditional methods, such as slow hand rendering, is typically of higher quality than tallow that is processed using modern methods, such as high-heat rendering. Our range is made from ceritified organic and grass fed hand rendered tallow from suet.
